God as Our Heavenly Father

Fatherhood is a concept under attack by the world. Yet, the father remains an important member of any family. And while the world wants to diminish the role, children from intact families, who have loving fathers, know how important their dads are to their families.

Yet, there are many families without fathers and many who have never know what it is to have a godly, loving father. Yet, there is one Father we can all have, whether you came from a household with a good father or a fatherless one. He is our heavenly Father. He is the One who provides for all our needs. He is the Holy One who gave up His Son, so we might have eternal life.

I found this article about our Heavenly Father. I thought you… Continue reading

Mercy of God by Takao Kiyohiro

I found this article on God’s mercy to add to what I wrote in the last lesson. It’s another reminder about God’s sovereign mercy and how fortunate we are to have received it and how important it is to remember, it’s not about us, it’s about Him. It’s about God’s mercy. It’s about God’s grace. His grace and mercy triumph over our sins. We inherit the promises of Abraham. We inherit the promises through faith.

Here is the article, The Mercy of God

“Last week we began to take up our reading again in chapter nine from The Epistle To The Roman Disciples.  In chapter nine Paul begins to speak on the free election of God.  But, Paul is not discussing here who is chosen and who is not.  As I already… Continue reading

The Wellspring of Life

Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life. Proverbs 4:23

The NIV tells us to guard our hearts. For the heart is th wellspring of life. Have you ever noticed how difficult it is to change someone’s perception or deeply held opinions?  It’s like talking to a wall. You can argue a point until you ar blue in the face and it does not seem to faze the other person.

For this reason, witnessing can be very difficult, especially in our own power. Without the Holy Spirit the person hearing the Word will not repent or change their beliefs. True, through witnessing we plant a seed, but unless the Holy Spirit has quickened their hearts so they might have understanding, they will not change their… Continue reading

Children of Abraham

Know ye therefore that they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham. Gal. 3:7

What does it mean to be one of Abraham’s offspring? It means we are in line to receive the promises made to Abraham. His people received the earthly promised land.  We will inherit the eternal promise land, based not on who we are or what we do, but on Christ and our faith in Him.

People seem to think they can add to or take away from God’s promises. We really cannot do such a thing. God’s promises come by our faith in Christ and held there by grace. And since the Bible says we cannot out sin grace, we cannot lose the inheritance we have in Christ. We cannot lose the promised land.

In… Continue reading

He Establishes Our Hearts

To the end he may stablish your hearts unblameable in holiness before God, even our Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all his saints.  1 Thessalonians 5:13

Paul remind us, we have a destiny. It’s not about the now, as much as it is about the future. Our future is with Christ. We are but for a little while, here on earth. But heaven is a place we will spend eternity. And how we prepare for eternity will affect our rewards the responsibility the Lord gives us in heaven.

John Gill writes, ” and in him the saints are without spot and blemish, who is their sanctification and their righteousness; but in themselves they are full of spots and stains; yet through the grace of God their hearts… Continue reading

Holiness is Not an Option, Mike Ratliff

I found this article on holiness. The title struck me. “Holiness is not an Option.”  It is who we are to become, through Christ:

Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord: Hebrews 12:14

“Are we to accept the profession of faith from everyone who claims to be a Christian? This is a hot button issue in our time. I know of several people who once fellowshipped here who no longer do because they are convinced that it is wrong to rebuke and contend with those who profess faith in Christ, but whose fruit show otherwise. What about this fruit? Is it an indication of the veracity of one’s faith? According to Hebrews 12:14 we see that only those who possess holiness will see the… Continue reading
